The Duke football team capped off a great season with a tough loss to the Cincinnati Bearcats in this years Belk Bowl in North Carolina.

 There were plenty of chances for the Duke football team to win, but unfortunately they came up short. This was Duke’s first postseason appearance since 1994 and Duke football fans were very excited. The Duke football players showed they have talent including Duke Wide Receiver Conner Vernon  who finished the game with 119 yards, 10 catches and a touchdown. Despite the loss, Duke football is showing plenty of strength to build on next season.

We can’t wait to see you at Wallace Wade Stadium next year.

The speedy running back, Josh Snead, scored two touchdowns running and receiving in the spring game. Coach David Cutcliffe is excited about Snead's return to the playing field this spring. The sophomore from Smithfield spent 2011 on the sidelines after suffering a foot injury in preseason camp.

Big plays were definitely missing in last year's performances. The Blue Devils ranked last among ACC teams in rushing yardage and only 10 of their 19 rushing touchdowns were scored by running backs. Snead gives something for fans to be excited about. 

Both the offensive units and the defensive units performed well at the Spring Game. That being said, Duke football knows they need to improve in fall camp in order to be highly competitive this 2012 Duke Football season.

NCAA Tournament Schedule

The No. 2-seeded Duke received a first-round bye in the ACC Tournament. Duke would play the winner of the Clemson Virginia Tech game.

As Virginia Tech prevailed, Duke was set to play the No. 10 seed. Duke took the game, winning 60-56. Up next came Florida State. The No. 3 Seminoles put up a fight and walked away with the win, and soon after, the tournament.

Duke lost 59-62.

Seven Blue Devils, headlined by kicker Will Snyderwine and wide receiver Conner Hermon, have been honored with preseason recognition from Athlon Sports in its annual college football preseason publication.

Snyderwine and Vernon both were named to Athlon's preseason first team All-ACC unit while safety Matt Daniels, tight end Cooper Helfet, offensive tackle Kyle Hill, quarterback Sean Renfree and wide receiver Donovan Varner all received third team all-conference mention.

Spring practices for the Duke Football Team are underway. The Blue Devils are thinking football and you should be too! It is going to be a great 2011 season for the Duke Football Team.

The Duke Basketball Team made it to the sweet sixteen, but their journey ended with a bracket-busting loss to No.5 Arizona. The loss had fans around the nation puzzled, yet looking forward to a Duke comeback next season.

The Duke football team finished at a disappointing 3-9 their 2010 season. In an exciting game against the Virginia Cavaliers, the Blue Devils broke an eight-game conference losing streak half-way through their season.

From Durham, North Carolina, Desmond Scott ran for a 35-yard touchdown with 40 seconds left on the clock to help Duke defeat Virginia 55-48. That exciting turn of events snapped the eight-game conference losing streak for Duke.

The Blue Devils had led 47-35 in the fourth quarter, but trailed 48-47 after a 6-yard touchdown by the Cavaliers. Sean Renfree completed a 32-yard pass to Donovan Varner on the fourth and 20, which set up Scott's run down the left sideline, followed by a diving touchdown!

Renfree and QB Brandon Connette rushed for two touchdowns a piece for Duke. Head coach David Cutcliffe plans on making team adjustments in the off-season. Fans should look forward to an exciting 2011 season packed with more wins!

Although the Duke Blue Devils are known for their basketball program (2010 National Champions), the football program is on the rise.  From 2005 to 2007, the Duke Blue Devils went 2-33.  The last two seasons the Duke Blue Devils are 9-15 including a 5-7 season in 2009.  They are rebuilding and getting better.  Quarterback Sean Renfree and wide receiver Donovan Varner are expected to build off of the 5 win season in 2009.  The Duke Blue Devils expect to compete for an ACC Title and head coach David Cutcliffe believes he has the team to do it.  Purchase your Duke Blue Devils football tickets today!  Don't miss your chance!

The 2010 Duke Football Roster will be revealed at the annual Duke Spring Game on March 27th. The Duke Spring Game will kickoff at Wallace Wade Stadium and will conclude the Spring Training for the Duke football program. Duke Head Coach David Cutcliffe, the 2010 Duke football roster is expected to perform well at the Duke Spring Football Scrimmage.

Due to the attacks on Pearl Harbor coming just weeks after the end of the 1941 college football season, travel restrictions and safety concerns forced the Rose Bowl out of California. Duke University was the East Coast invite for the bowl game so they thought it fit to hold the game at Wallace Wade Stadium, then named Duke Stadium, and the Rose Bowl committee agreed.

The Blue Devils Football team lost the New Years Day contest 16-20 to the Oregon State Beavers, but was still proud to be a part of college football history.

The Duke Football Season ended with a disappointing loss to Wake Forest at Wallace Wade Stadium. The Duke 2009 football season ended with a 5-7 record, 3-5 in the conference. The win column may be less than coach David Cutliffe and Duke football fans had hoped for, but the team showed improvement over the previous year including two more conference victories.

Also, six Duke football players received All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors. Donovan Varner was a first team selection, Thaddeus Lewis, Vincent Rey and Will Snyderwine were second team selections and honorable mention choices went toVince Oghobaase and Leon Wright.

Senior Duke quarterback Thaddeus Lewis started 46 games for the Duke Blue Devils, setting a school record. Thaddeus Lewis also set records as Dukes all-time leading passer with 10,065 passing yards. Lewis is the 60th quarterback in NCAA history to reach the 10,000-yard mark for his career and his 67 career touchdown passes etches his name as the second-highest in ACC history.

"He's just so tough," Duke coach David Cutcliffe said. "He's really, really tough. He is a fierce competitor."

"It means a lot because in the midst of breaking those records, we got better as a football team," Thaddeus Lewis said. "That's something to be remembered for - to be a guy who helped change the program around."

Duke football fans thank you, Thaddeus Lewis, for your hard work and determination to make Duke Football something to be proud of.

The Duke Blue Devils Football roster includes many expereinced players this year including senior starting quarterback Thaddeus Lewis who is looking forward to elevating the passing game this season. The Duke Blue Devils are the official athletics program of Duke University located in Durham, North Carolina. The Blue Devils moniker was quietly adopted by the Duke University student newspaper, The Chronicle, in the mid 1920's.  The Chronicle editors wanted a mascot name that included the school colors of blue or white and after receiving many nominations, decided Blue Devils was the favorite.

Over the years, the color of the Duke Blue Devils logo and mascot has become so recognizable that the particular shade of blue is referred to as "Duke Blue."  It's hex #00009C, but is most often referred to as Duke Blue by professional printers and web designers alike.
